چکیده

Abstract This article provides a description and an Optimality Theory (OT) analysis of contact-induced changes variation in contemporary Yoruba syllable structure. The claims that major diachronic change has occurred the structure phonology due to its continued contact with English, resulting invention, preservation, hypercorrection clusters codas. The tonal phonology of Yoruba clitics

This paper examines the tonal behavior of six types of enclitics in Standard Yoruba, and shows that in all six cases, a constraint applies preventing the last syllable of the host and the adjacent clitic syllable from having the same (High or Low) tone. There are no other host+clitic cases in Yoruba for which such a constraint would be relevant. Potential violations of the constraint are avoide...

Probabilistic Context-Free Grammars for Phonology

We present a phonological probabilistic contextfree grammar, which describes the word and syllable structure of German words. The grammar is trained on a large corpus by a simple supervised method, and evaluated on a syllabification task achieving 96.88% word accuracy on word tokens, and 90.33% on word types. We added rules for English phonemes to the grammar, and trained the enriched grammar o...

Computational Phonology - Part II: Grammars, Learning, and the Future

Computational phonology studies sound patterns in the world’s languages from a computational perspective. This article shows that the similarities between different generative theories outweigh the differences, and discusses stochastic grammars and learning models within phonology from a computational perspective. Also, it shows how the hypothesis that all sound patterns are subregular can be i...

Contemporary global movement of emerging plant diseases.

Plant diseases are a significant constraint to agricultural productivity. Exotic plant diseases pose a continued threat to profitable agriculture in the United States. The extent of this threat has increased dramatically in the 1980s and 1990s due to the expansion of international trade in agricultural products and frequent movement of massive volume of people and goods across national boundari...
